Solar Eclipse


Important Information about the Solar Eclipse

On Monday August 21st, 2017 we will experience a total solar eclipse, an event that hasn’t occurred over the U.S. mainland since 1979.  A total solar eclipse, which is when the moon completely covers the sun, will occur across 14 states in the continental U.S. along a 70-mile-wide swath of the country.  While Boone County is not located in this area, we will still be able to view the partial solar eclipse.

This event will be an extraordinary educational opportunity for our students.  Many of our schools will have special activities or lessons planned for this day to accompany the event.  While this event is extremely exciting for our students, we must also acknowledge the importance of proper eye safety.  While it should be common sense not to stare directly at the sun with your naked eyes, this advice will be even more important during this event.  The eclipse must be viewed only through proper eclipse glasses.  Schools with planned viewing activities will require students to wear proper solar eclipse glasses.

In order to protect our students’ eyes during this event:

  • Students will not participate in any unstructured outdoor activities, including recess
  • Students will be advised to not look directly at the sun without wearing solar eclipse glasses
  • We will provide additional personnel until 4pm for parents who do not want their children riding the bus during the eclipse.Children who do not ride the bus for that reason will have to be picked up by parents at 4pm.

Any middle school student interested in Ryle's cross country, see link below.  Sign up until August 25th.  You must have a sports physical before you can start.  All paperwork needed can be found at the bottom of the website.


FRYSC DONATIONS Family Resource Center


Did you know that 32% of children in Boone County Schools are considered to be living in poverty, and that 1% of those children are homeless?  You can help provide these children with basic items like clothing, personal hygiene items, food, and cleaning supplies by donating to the Boone County Schools’ FRYSC at Gray Middle School.   Family Resource & Youth Services Center 

Items requested for May:  Hand soap, kids socks, and sweatpants.

School Tryout Reminders!

Tryouts require you to bring an Athletic Consent-Insurance Form and have a current Sport Physical Form on file at GMS.  These forms are a must to be eligible for tryouts.
