Last night’s decision to continue on A/B hybrid model next week means that students will follow the same A/B schedule for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, Friday.  This decision was extremely difficult as we are committed to provide the best educational experience possible to our students and we are committed to the safety and health of our students and employees. 

Instructional Model Status for the week of October 26th-30th.

Our primary objective is effectively educating our students and we must accomplish that objective by keeping our students, our staff, and our community safe.  We are very concerned about the academic, socio-emotional, mental, and the physical health of our students and we also believe that we must work to provide more in-person instruction to our students.  After reviewing our district closure criteria today, we will continue to provide in-person instruction using our A/B hybrid model for the week of October 26th – 30th.

Dear Boone County Families & Employees,

From the onset of this pandemic, three priorities emerged as the central part of every conversation regarding reopening our schools: 
 

A. Effectively educate our students,

B. Keeping our students, employees, and communities safe, and 

C. The effect of the pandemic on our families and jobs.
 

After listening to concerns, gathering input and feedback, speaking with many stakeholders, holding a public forum -- I have given these issues considerable reflection.  My recommendation for providing more in-person instruction to our students is as follows:
 

1. To provide 4 days of in-person instruction for both A & B groups each week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
 

2. Wednesday will be maintained as a support and intervention day for our students receiving virtual instruction.
 

3. To begin this change to our instructional model on Thursday, October 29th. We will communicate to parents the week prior on Thursday October 22nd, 2020 the status of our instructional model for the following week.

The teachers, administrators, and staff of our school district are doing great work during very difficult and challenging times. I am very proud of each one, as they are all working to better serve our students and to improve students' experience in the A/B hybrid model. Overall, students and staff both continue to do a good job of wearing masks and staying physically distanced. Parents, thank you and keep up the good work on conducting health checks for your children each morning.

As a school district, we are working to plan ahead and determine how we can safely provide more in-person instruction to our students. We are also concerned about the mental health and well­being of our students, employees, and parents, in addition to their physical safety during this pandemic. A special school board meeting was held last night to listen and gather feedback from our employees and community on how and when a transition to more in-person instruction is feasible. Please be assured that any changes to how our schools provide instruction would always be contingent on the state of the COVID-19 pandemic in our community.

Notification to Parents and Guardians
REPORTING COVID CASES
                

Kentucky law requires parents to report to their child's schools if their student has a communicable disease that could place other students and staff at risk for infection. While usually that involves things like chicken pox, state public health regulations have been updated to include COVID-19 as one of those communicable diseases.

If your student tests positive for COVID-19 at any time, please immediately report it to the school nurse, by calling your student's school. Notification that a student tests positive is important so that we can take reasonable steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19 spreading among students. 

To allow us to best track the educational needs of your student, please immediately let us know if your child has been placed on quarantine due to COVID-19 so that we can work with you to adjust your student's schedule to prevent learning loss while he/she is quarantined. We are happy to assist with remote learning opportunities and other services that may be available during this time.

Our first two episode on this bi-weekly podcast feature Stacie Kegley, Instructional Coach at Ballyshannon Middle sharing her experience with proficiency scales. No Cost for meals for ALL Students from September 9, 2020 thru December 31, 2020.

As Boone County Schools prepare for “In-Person & Remote Instruction” beginning the week of September 28, 2020, our online ordering and meal package distribution will change.

In-Person & Remote Instruction YELLOW STATUS Meal Services

• Breakfast and lunch meal services in all schools will be provided to those children attending in-person.
• Those attending in-person are not eligible for the weekly 5-day meal package on Wednesday, but will be able to request a 3 day meal package to go home on Tuesday if you’re in person Monday/Tuesday or Friday if you’re in person Thursday/Friday.

• The weekly meal packages are available for Boone County 100% virtual instruction students and for children 2 years through 18 years of age who are not students of Boone County Schools. The pick-up for weekly meals will be on Wednesdays from 10 am to 2 pm at ALL Boone County Schools. Ordering instructions are below.
• If there is a holiday or in-service day during the week, we will provide meals for instructional days only for that week.

The COVID-19 pandemic has presented our community with many complex challenges, including how we will safely educate our 21,000 students. The priority of safely and effectively educating our students must be balanced with the safety of our 3,600 employees and also the financial impact of the pandemic on jobs and our families.

While we cannot eliminate risks altogether, we believe that by following the state and federal guidance listed above we can together significantly reduce the risk of potentially spreading COVID-19 on our campuses. Doing so, however, will require a shared commitment by each of us to take care of ourselves, our families, and everyone in our schools.
