Our Building and Its Namesake
Mann Elementary School was built in 2005-2006, opened in August of 2006, and was dedicated during the spring of 2007. Our building is a state-of-the-art facility and we are so proud to call it home.
We are honored to be named after a wonderful lady, Shirley Mann. Mrs. Mann taught for many years at New Haven Elementary in Boone County (actually...New Haven is less than a mile from our school). Many of our teachers taught with Mrs. Mann over the years. Boone County lost Mrs. Mann to cancer but her legacy lives on through our building. We choose joy in our lives every day as Mrs. Mann encouraged her colleagues and students to do as well. Soon, you will see our Choose Joy flag flying in front of our building.
The Mann family is integral in the operation of our school. Mrs. Mann's sons, Scott and Brian Mann of Mann Capital Management (one of our B.E.S.T.Partners), help us out in countless ways from assisting with our yearly walkathon to donating time and talent reading to students. Mrs. Mann's husband, Jeff Mann, visits us regularly, was an inspirational speaker at our dedication, and is our biggest cheerleader. Sarah Mann, a tremendous teacher in her own right at New Haven, additionally has been a great support to our school. We thank the entire Mann family for their support, kind words, and participation in our school culture.
Union, Kentucky is a small town, but we're getting bigger with each blink of an eye. In fact, our population is practically exploding. Some of our larger subdivisions served at our school are Hempstead, Hampshire, Cool Springs, and a portion of Triple Crown.
Are you traveling to our school? Take I-75/I-71 to the US 42/Florence-Union exit (exit 180). Proceed toward Union. You will pass Ockerman Elementary and Middle as well as the Boone County Board of Education building on your right as well as many strip malls and restaurants. As the industry appears to cease, you will see a boom of new housing on your left. Keep going. You will pass Kroger on your left. Keep going. As you proceed, you begin to see rolling green hills dotted with bulldozers and new construction. Keep going. You will eventually see Union Presbyterian Church on your right and St. Timothy Catholic Church on your left. You're almost there. You will approach a traffic light and on the hill will see a marquee that reads "Ryle High School, Gray Middle School, Mann Elementary School." Proceed through that light. At the next light, turn right into our campus. At the 4-way stop, turn left. You will see Gray Middle on your right and then eventually Mann Elementary on your left. The first drive on the left is our bus loop. The second drive is our parking lot.
